Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed in the Nayapalli area of the capital city today when hundreds of women activists under the banner of BJP Mahila Morcha took to the streets protesting operation of a liquor shop near a government hospital and a school. As a mark of protest, they burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also.

Shouting anti-government slogans, the activists staged a demonstration at the IRC Village Square protesting functioning of a liquor bar, which is located in front of the Sarkari Anchalika Chikitsalaya in the area.

The BJP Mahila Morcha alleged that the State government has flouted the rules by giving license for opening of the bar in the locality. "Besides the hospital, two educational institutions, including a government high school and temples are also located in the area. This clearly shows the attitude of the state government,” said a member of the body.
