Bhanjanagar: Woman of Asanapalli village under Jilundi panchayat today delivered a baby near the Bhanjanagar hospital on account of negligence caused by hospital authorities and unavailability of an ambulance. Similar cases were reported in Rayagada and Koraput on Tuesday.

After complaining of labour pain, the woman, identified as Basumati Naik, was rushed to the Bhanjanagar hospital by family members with the help of an ASHA worker of her locality.

However, doctors referred Basumati to the MKCG hospital, Berhampur, citing complications in her condition.

Despite repeated calls made by family membersfor ambulance services to take Basumati to MKCG, no one turned up.
Meanwhile, Basumati’s labour pain became more intense and she delivered the baby near the hospital gate.

Sources said condition of the mother and child are stable and both of them are undergoing treatment at the Bhanjanagar hospital.

In a similar incident yesterday a pregnant woman delivered her baby on office premises of Padapadar panchayat under Narayanpatna block in Koraput district after an 102 ambulance failed to arrive despite repeated calls.
