Sundergarh: One more student fell ill allegedly after being injected with Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine at Podajalanga UG High School in Sundergarh district.

The girl student, identified as Suchita, and her school mates were administered the vaccine at the school on Monday. Half an hour after taking the vaccine, she complained of illness and was admitted to a nearby hospital from where she was discharged after treatment.

However, she fell unconscious again today morning in her house while getting prepared for school. She was rushed to Sundergarh District Headquarters Hospital but was later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla after her condition deteriorated.

"MR vaccination camp was held in our school on February 5 and the girl, within half an hour of taking the vaccine, complained that she is not feeling well. She was admitted to the hospital and after getting well she was discharged," said Principal of Podajalanga UG High School, Kaushik Chaudhary.

"After wearing her school uniform she called for me. When I went to check, I saw her lying unconscious on bed," said Suchita's mother Mani Bhosal.

The ADMO (Public Health) of Sundergarh said that the vaccination may not be the reason for illness of the child.

Earlier, a girl student died after being vaccinated at Piplimal village in Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district. Similarly, 44 students of Nirmala Girls High School located in Kainsara of Sundergarh district had taken ill following vaccination.
