Berhampur: Berhampur Sadar Police on Saturday registered a fresh land grab case against former Sanakhemundi Congress MLA Ramesh Jena and four others.

Informing the media here, Berhampur SP Ashish Singh said the Sadar Police has registered a case (no-65/16) against Jena and four others - his father Arakhita Jena, corporator of Berhampur Municipal Corporation R Murali Mohan, builder Sai Patnaik and Rajiv Tripathy - on the charge of forcible possession of four acres of land of Radhakanta Math in Bhabinipur area.

He said prior to this case, Sadar Police had registered a case against Jena for grabbing the land of the Math.

Of the five persons against whom Sadar Police has registered the case, four are in the jail except Rajiv, the SP said, adding that the police has prayed to the court to take the ex-Congress MLA on remand for interrogation on another land grabbing case.

Talking about the efforts of the police to make Ganjam a crime-free district, Singh said the police has arrested 169 anti-socials and seized 23 pistols from their possession during the special drive so far.

“Besides, 218 persons have been arrested under Excise Act while 536 have been nabbed under arrest warrant,” he added.
