Cuttack: The annual High School Certificate (HSC) examinations in Odisha will begin from February 27, said the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in a notification today.

Talking to media persons here, BSE president Sushant Das said examination will be held in one subject everyday.

“The examinations would begin at 9 AM. The timing of examinations for all subjects would will be two and half hours except Mathematics which will have an extra 15 minutes duration. However, the timing for Madhyama examinations would be held from 2 PM to 4.30 PM,” Das informed.

He further said a total of 6,05,064 students will appear in the annual HSC examinations while 3595 students will appear in the Madhayma examinations this year. The examinations will be held in 2939 centres.

It is worthwhile here to mention that the State Election Commission (SEC) prior to its announcement of the date for the Panchayat elections, had asked BSE to inform about the probable schedule for the annual HSC examinations.

“Usually the HSC examinations are held in the last week of February. The Board had received an order from the School and Mass Education department not to conduct HSC examinations in February. But after receiving the letter from the SEC about the schedule of the examinations, the Board later sent a letter to the Commission through School and Mass Education department for approval of the revised examination schedule,” the BSE president had told the media on October 13 last year.

Das had also said the SEC had told the School and Mass Education department and the BSE to fix a convenient schedule for the HSC examinations keeping the future of about six lakh students in mind so that the examinations and the Panchayat elections can be conducted smoothly.
