Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers are sitting on an indefinite dharna at Lower PMG since September 14 pressing for fulfillment of their various demands, including salary hike.

After staging demonstration in front of the state Assembly on September 12, the activists have been staging the stir at Lower PMG under the banner of the All Odisha Ladies’ Workers Association. Their demands include Rs 18,000 monthly salary, compensation in case of death of Anganwadi workers, retirement and other government benefits.

Everyday, Anganwadi workers of a different district are staging the dharna. “After a discussion in May this year, the state government had taken two months time to sort out our issue. However, nothing has been done even after three months. At last, we staged the cease-work stir,” said an activist.

Later, the activists submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who assured them to look into their demands.
