Soro: At a time when Odisha government is making tall claims of launching schemes for welfare of women and children in the State, condition of Anganwadi centres in Soro municipality belie the assurances and promises made by senior officials and ministers.

Some Anganwadi centres are running in mud houses and lack even basic facilities such as drinking water, whereas some others centres are being run by Anganwadi workers with money from their own pockets.

Snigdhasini Panda, an Anganwadi worker of Ishwarpur, said, "We have built the thatched house with our own money. Though the supervisor had assured us of a pucca house, nothing has been done yet. Besides, due to lack drinking water facilities, we are facing difficulties."

Expressing similar views, Chandrabati Sahu, a worker of Kamarpur Anganwadi stated, "A pucca house has not been given yet despite the fact that the centre has been functioning since seven years."

Meanwhile, sources said the government has sanctioned pucca houses for Ghodasahi, Mobarakpur, Kudandapur, Gopinathpur, Ishwarpur and Dangalpadi villages falling under the Soro municipality.
Ramesh Hansdah, Block Development officer of Soro said, "Main problem for the government is land. We are holding discussions with village committees to resolve the matter."

Out of 29 Anaganwadi centres, pucca houses have been sanctioned for six, he said.
