Anandpur: Expressing resentment over the inordinate delay in the construction of Kusei bridge on National Highway-215 near Belabahali village, lawyers and senior citizens in this sub divisional town today urged the Keonjhar district administration to take necessary steps for early completion of the project.

“No compromise should be made in the construction of Kusei bridge on National Highway-215. Whoever is opposing the construction of the bridge is an enemy of the people of Keonjhar district. If the construction work is not expedited today, at least 20,000 people of Anandpur sub division will come to the street tomorrow,” Sanjay Mishra, president of Anandpur Bar Association, told media persons after attending a public hearing convened by the Keonjhar district collector here today.

Senior advocate Chittaranjan Dash of Anandpur Bar Association said a delegation of around 25 members of the Association including the president and secretary, working secretary of Anandpur Private Bus Association, retired principals and principals of private colleges, senior citizens and sarpanchs of 22 panchayats submitted a memorandum to the district collector in support of the construction of the bridge today.

“We informed the collector that the delay in the construction of the bridge has badly affected the people of Keonjhar and other districts. We urged him to start construction of the bridge simultaneously from both the sides to ensure its early completion,” he said.

Stating that the college students are unable to go to college as some people of Belabahali village have obstructed the road and put up red flags, Dash alleged that the police has not taken any steps to remove the obstruction from the road. Keeping this in view, the Bar Association has decided to take up the issue with the district administration to find a way for completion of the bridge at the earliest.
