Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Jual Oram today launched a stinging attack on the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) by claiming that the ruling party’s allegations of poll fund irregularities against him are baseless and politically motivated.

Rajya Sabha member Dilip Tirkey, along with more than 10 BJD MPs, met Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti on Thursday demanding action against Oram over poll expenditure irregularities.

While speaking to OTV, the Union Minister said that the allegations have been slapped because of 'political' reasons.

“The BJD is trying to save Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who is all set to get convicted for irregularities in poll expenses. They aim at bailing out the CM from the serious crime by dragging my name," alleged Oram.

No matter whatever tactics the BJD play, the CM will have to pay the price for his crime, he said, adding that he will give an appropriate reply to the Election Commission, if he is served a notice in connection with the allegations brought against him by the BJD.

Tirkey lost to Oram during a fray for Sundergarh Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general polls. Later, Tirkey was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
