Bhubaneswar: All the government-run schools in Odisha will have pucca (concrete) kitchens by December this year.

During a review meeting held in State Secretariat on Wednesday Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi directed the officials to finish construction of kitchens by December 2017.

“Out of the 58,000 schools in the State, 42,000 already have concrete kitchens; we will equip the rest 16,000 schools with pucca kitchens by December-end this year,” Padhi said after the meeting.

With several instances of students falling ill after taking mid-day meals coming to fore, the government’s decision is expected to ensure better hygiene in preparation of mid-day meals.
