Bhubaneswar: To help police in tracking down criminal elements in the shortest possible time, the Odisha government has decided to upload all data relating to all crimes and criminal activities in the intranet network of the State Police under Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project.
A decision to this effect was taken at the State Apex Committee meeting presided over by chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at the State Secretariat here today.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Principal Secretary, Home, Asit Tripathy said CCTNS is a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing through adoption of the principles of e-Governance and creation of a network infrastructure for evolution of IT enabled system for Investigation of crime and detection of criminals.
He said as per the decision taken at the meeting, digitisation of data of the last 14 years would be uploaded in the intranet network of the State Police and connected to the offices of the IG, DIG, State Police Headquarters and all 534 police stations in the state so that if there is any crime in any part of the state, the detailed history of the crime and the criminals would be found with the click of a button.
He also said out of 10 major parameters of CCTNS, the State Police has achieved hundred percent compliance in seven. “The meeting discussed ways to achieve the same in respect of the remaining three parameters at the earliest as the state government has decided to make the system functional in all police stations by March 31 next year,” he added.
Presiding over the meeting, the chief secretary directed the Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh to make suitable in-house arrangements for deriving maximum benefit out of the system, particularly in matters of investigation of crime, expeditious tracking, prosecution, enforcement etc.
It was revealed that around 100 percent progress has been made in parameters like site survey, site preparations, hardware delivery, hardware commission, data centre commissioning, core application, software installation and data digitization for the year 2014. Besides, data migration and further development of the citizen’s portal have been expedited. Network connectivity was around 97 percent.
For the implementation of CCTNS project in the state, the Centre has released Rs 35.36 crore of which 90 percent of the expenditure has already been made. Besides, the state government has provided Rs 14.61 crore for additional features and citizen centric services against which utilization has been to the tune of 76 percent, sources said.
