Bhubaneswar: A three-member team of observers, constituted by All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Sonia Gandhi, to assess the political situation in Odisha met various district presidents in the first phase of their visit today.

The team discussed the political situation of the party in the State and sought their opinion on the change of guard in the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC). The district presidents also expressed their opinions on various issues before the observers.

In the second phase the observers will meet office bearers and leaders of OPCC.

The team comprises Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Tamrdhwaj Sahu and former Union Minister Jitendra Singh. They were joined by AICC General Secretary and Odisha in-charge BK Hariprasad.

The team has been asked to submit a joint report to the AICC chief after returning from the State.

Talking to OTV, Senior Congress leader Pradeep Majhi said, “We had asked the AICC chief to send a committee to assess the situation in Odisha by meeting the party workers. While 39 people had met them in New Delhi, here the observers can meet with nearly 400-500 people. It will surely help us as they accepted our proposal and came here.”
