Balasore: Nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-I was successfully test-fired from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast on Tuesday.

The test of the surface-to-surface missile with a strike range of 700 kilometre was carried out by Strategic Forces Command of Indian army from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island in Balasore.

The indigenously developed Agni-I missile is propelled by a solid rocket propellant system. It is equipped with a specialised navigation system that ensures it reaches the target with a high degree of precision, informed sources from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The missile, which has already been inducted into the armed forces stands at a height of 15 metres, weighs about 12 tonnes and can carry loads up to 1,000 kg.
