Bargarh: Hundreds of farmers staged demonstration in front of the Bargarh Collector office demanding fulfillment of various demands including release of crop insurance and loan waiver.

As per reports, agitators under the aegis of Krushak Sangathan Samanuaya Samiti's Bargarh unit locked all government offices including Tehsil office, District Agriculture Office, Head Post Office and banks located in the district headquarters town.

"First we closed the Tehsil office followed by DRDA and Sub-Collector office, but were unhappy to see the DRCS and Agriculture office open. We had apprised them seven days earlier and asked them to extend support to our agitation but the offices were open, which shows lack of concerns on the part of the authorities," said convenor of Krushak Sangathan Samanaya Samiti, Jaykrushna Sahu.

Later in the day, the agitators took out a massive rally and marched towards the Collector office. The farmers gheraoed the Collector office for nearly four hours shouting slogans.

"We had submitted a memorandum to the district administration earlier. We called for the agitation today in this regard including our major demand to immediately release the crop insurance of 2017 kharif season," said farmer leader, Kishore Debata.

The farmers withdrew their agitation after receiving a written assurance from the Collector to fulfill their demands within seven days after holding a discussion with the concerned insurance company.

"The farmers were assured that discussions will be held with representatives of the insurance company and farmers within seven days to chalk out steps for immediate release of the funds," said Bargarh Collector, Indramani Tripathy.
