Bhawanipatna: After sheep killing in Niali, Cuttack during past few days, cases of sheep death were reported from Moharanapada in Pandigaon under Kalampur block of Kalahandi district today.
Villager Suresh Shabara’s sheep was found lying in a field with head torn out of the body. Besides, another sheep out of 13 is missing.
The sheep owner and a forest official, who arrived at the spot after receiving information, are clueless about the attacker.
Veterinary doctor of Kalampur confirmed that the sheep was killed by a wild animal as per the post-mortem report.
Speaking on Niali sheep deaths, Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray said, “The strategy to trap animal will be changed and more traps along with additional manpower will be deployed.”
In connection with Kalahandi case Routray said that report has been sought from Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF), Bhawanipatna Circle, Kalahandi.
Earlier, Kalampur forester Bhubaneswar Behera told OTV, “We fail to discern which animal has killed the sheep. But from the spot visit, it has been found the sheep’s liver has been eaten after creating a hole near the neck.”
Asked about the plans to prevent such cases, the forester said, “With locals help, night watch will be arranged to stop such attacks on sheep.”
It is worth mentioning that the Cuttack administration and the Forest department officials are spending sleepless nights after sheep were killed by a ‘mysterious animal’ whose physical appearance is yet to be established. Besides, villagers fear that the ‘mysterious animal’ might also target children as well.
Even the Chief Minister stepped in to abate the fear following the Niali sheep deaths and issued a statement that the ‘mysterious animal’ and the sheep deaths are being taken up by the Forest department seriously.
