After Kunduli, one more minor girl commits suicide after rape

Khurda: At a time when screams from Kunduli are echoing through the state, yet another minor girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Suanpadia near Banpur in Khurda district on Wednesday.

As per the family members, the girl was allegedly raped on December 31 last month following which they lodged a complaint with the police on January 2. However, the police reportedly failed to take any action against the accused till date.

Depressed with the inaction of police, the girl finally took the extreme step and allegedly committed suicide yesterday by consuming poison, family sources said.

On receiving information, Balugaon SDPO along with Banpur police rushed to the spot but they were not allowed to take the body. However, after they assured proper investigation will be initiated into the incident, the family agreed to send the body to Banpur Hospital for post mortem.

Meanwhile, sources said the girl was betrayed by a youth, who on the pretext of marriage, allegedly forced her to have physical relationship with him.

SDPO Balugaon, Subash Chanda Panda said, ”We have never tried to weaken the case. Steps were being taken and investigation was on. We have assured them that strict action will be taken against the accused.”
