Berhampur: After the Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA) Rayagada, the State government is now targeting Ortel Communications. The Berhampur district administration on Thursday sealed its office in Berhampur citing various reasons.

The sub-collector and the Commissioner of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) raided the Ortel office yesterday citing violation of fire safety norms and trade license.

On the other hand, the company said it is unaware of the reason behind such action.

“Their operations were violating several norms. We had earlier warned them. The building has been seized based on violation of the norms,” said BeMC Commissioner, Chakravarti Singh Rathore.

“We had received a notice from the BeMC Commissioner regarding trade license. Then they told us that we were not adhering to fire safety norms. On Thursday, the district administration and the BeMC officials forcibly sealed our control room. We are yet to know the actual reason behind the action,” said Rajendra Kumar Das, Public Relations Officer of Ortel.

“We are fortunate that today we got a stay order against the sealing from the Orissa High Court,” Das added.
