Addressing a gathering in the closing ceremony of BJD ‘Jan Sampark Padayatra' in Pattamundai of Kendrapara district, Maharathy used many slangs while targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Bullet Train issue and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on construction of barrages upstream Mahanadi issue.

Even if many women were present on stage and in the audience, Maharathy did not shy in use of unparliamentary language. Such an act of the minister invited criticism from BJP.

"The culture of using filthy language is ingrained in the BJD. Those people who don't have manners to talk, those who insult Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on a regular basis want to prove that they have acquired the culture of Naveen Patnaik," said BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma.
