Bhubaneswar: Virender Dev Dixit, founder and spiritual head of Adhyatmik Vishwa Vidyalaya in New Delhi, who is now in the midst of a controversy for allegedly confining girls in the name of preaching, was also visiting an ashram in Bhubaneswar on a regular basis.

According to reports, Dixit used to come to the ashram located at Jagannath Nagar in the city for preaching activities here. The ashram has now come under scanner.

Though a team of police had inspected the ashram, no objectionable items were found today. However force has been deployed nearby as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, 40 girls were rescued from Adhyatmik Vishwa Vidyalaya in New Delhi yesterday.

The development came after Delhi High Court on Tuesday had directed police to immediately inspect the institution in Delhi’s Rohini, where girls and women were allegedly kept in illegal confinement in the name of preaching.

Earlier, a Non-government organisation, Foundation for Social Empowerment had informed the court that several minors and women were allegedly confined illegally at the “spiritual university” here and were not allowed to meet their parents.

A family in Pipili has also alleged that its daughter had also visited the Delhi institution few years back and no communication could be established with her since then. It was only after court's intervention, the girl was traced and rescued.

"I had visited the ashram but I was not subjected to any kind of torture," said the rescued girl.

However, the concerned girl's cousin and others who had went to the ashram are yet to be traced.

"More than five girls from Odisha have gone to the ashram and are untraceable," said a complainant, Lingaraj Bhoi.
