Activists vent ire on Dama Rout, barge into his house

Bhubaneswar: After protests against the recent farmers' deaths and crop loss failed to move Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout, activists of Nav Nirman Yuba Chhatra Sangathan today stormed into the residence of the Minister demanding his arrest during a demonstration in the city over farmers' issues.

Though police officials had been deployed outside Rout's residence, they failed to stop the agitation as five activists of the Sangathan broke open the main gate and barged inside. However, the SI on duty, Jambeswar Muduli has been suspended for breach in security.

According to sources, the youth activists earlier in the day staged a demonstration at the Lower PMG square here in Bhubaneswar over the recent deaths of farmers and amendment of agriculture relief code and demanded to implement laws for sharecroppers.

This apart, the Sangathan has demanded to remove the Agriculture Minister from his post and arrest him, sources said.

As per latest reports, police have arrested the five activists of the Sangathan and taken them into custody.
