Jharsuguda: Workers of Action Ispat Company resorted to a 12-hour Jharsuguda bandh today demanding payment of their pending salary and reopening of the plant at Marakuta in the district.

As part of the protest, bus service was disrupted while a few shops and business were closed since 6 am affecting normal life partially. The activists were also seen picketing at bus stands, Beheramal, Bypass Square, BTM Chhak, Badmal, Collector Office and Sarbahal squares. However, normalcy restored after police detained some activists from various places.

The workers body warned that if the company management doesn’t take any positive steps after the Bandh, they would decide their future course of action.

Notably, the workers had been sitting on a dharna in front of the Collector office since December 13 demanding payment of their pending salary of last six months and reopening of the plant. As the company management did not pay heed to their demands, the workers decided to observe Jharsuguda bandh.
