Acid attack on woman over dowry

Balasore: A woman sustained serious burn injuries after her mother-in-law allegedly threw acid on her over dowry at Deula village under Bhograi police limits in Balasore district on Monday.

The woman was admitted to Balasore district headquarters hospital  in critical condition.

As per the complaint, the mother-in-law and husband of the victim had been reportedly torturing her both physically and mentally since her marriage demanding more dowry.

On Monday, the victim's husband beat her over dowry after which she asked her parents to lodge a complaint with police. Irked over this, the mother-in-law threw acid on her, following which she sustained burn injuries on her stomach and waist. Getting information, the parents of the victim rushed her to the Jaleswarpur hospital and later shifted to Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH).
