Berhampur: Around five months after a student of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur was attacked with acid on the campus allegedly by her husband, police arrested the accused from Vashi Gaon in Navi Mumbai today.
With the help of Crime Branch experts, a three-member team of the Berhampur police nabbed Niranjan Pradhan, who was working as a delivery boy there by changing his identity. Sources said emails and WhatsApp messages of Niranjan were tracked and police managed to trace his whereabouts.
Minati Kumari Pradhan, a student of third year Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT), was attacked with acid on the campus on November 16, 2017. Minati, a resident of Barida village under Kabisuryanagar Police Station, was standing near the girls' common room of the college, when Niranjan allegedly threw acid on her and fled. He was absconding since then.
It is alleged that Minati's husband attacked her with acid over some family dispute. Earlier, Minati's father had stated that the relationship between the couple was strained.
