Salipur: The Salipur Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court today directed the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch to lodge suspected Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) operative Abdur Rehman at Choudwar Jail in Cuttack till May 17.
The court order came in the wake of a petition filed by the lawyer of the suspected terrorist.
Rehman was produced in the court amid tight security today after being brought from the Tihar Jail in New Delhi. He was produced before the court on the basis of an appeal made by the STF. Later, Rehman’s counsel sought court permission to lodge him in jail in the State.
Notably, Rehman was arrested following a joint raid by the special cell of Delhi police and the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on December 15, 2015. He was accused of illegally running a Madrasa on the outskirts of Cuttack and radicalizing youths for terror activities.
