Angul: In a fresh incident of gender disparity, a newborn girl, who is suspected to have been abandoned by her parents, was rescued by police near Siliamunda village at Pallahara in Angul district on Thursday.

The newborn was later admitted to a hospital and her condition is now stated to be stable.

Some locals had first spotted the baby girl lying inside the bush near a pond and immediately alerted police.

The cops then rushed to the spot and rescued the baby and admitted her to a hospital.

As per the treating doctors, the condition of the baby girl is now stable, said Pallahara SDPO Jasobanta Samal.

On the other hand, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) said the custody of the rescued baby will be handed over to the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after she completely recovers.
