Berhampur: An abandoned newborn girl was rescued by residents of a village in Odisha's Ganjam district and sent to a private children's centre here.

The baby girl, who was found abandoned by villagers at Badangi under Tarsingi police station limits on Wednesday, was shifted in a private 'Sishu Bhavan' here later, district officials said today.

After rescuing the baby from roadside, some women of the village admitted her to the sub-divisional hospital at Bhanjanagara.

The baby was suspected to have been abandoned by her parents after delivery, officials said.

She was produced before the child welfare committee, Ganjam, the officials said.

Following the direction of the committee, she was shifted to the 'Sishu Bhawan' yesterday, said an activist of NGO Childline here.

The condition of the baby is good, district Director of Childline, Ganjam, Sudhir Sabata said.
