Athagarh: A day after staff of Aarati Steel Plant, along with locals, ransacked and torched the security office following the death of a worker, the plant authorities on Thursday agreed to give an ex-gratia of Rs 8 lakh to the family members of the deceased.

The plant authorities have also promised to give a job at the steel plant to one of the family members of the victim.

On Wednesday, staff of the steel plant, along with locals, ransacked and torched the security office after news of the death of the worker identified as Chandan Das spread. Prior to this, some irate locals staged a dharna in front of Gate no 1 and 2 of the plant.

Das had died while undergoing treatment after being injured in an accident at the plant.

Notably, two contract workers of DRI department and an engineer were injured in the accident inside the steel plant on April 7.
