Bhubaneswar: As it is almost certain with only official announcement of dates awaited that Odisha will host the upcoming Asian Athletics Championship, a team of officials inspected the facilities and infrastructure and Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.

A delegation of Asian Athletic Association and Athletics Federation of India (AFI) officials inspected the venue and gave positive feedback for organising the mega event scheduled in July here. The officials later held discussions with the Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

“Odisha people will see the Asian Championship. We are positive and working to come up with better facilities at Kalinga Stadium,” said AFI General Secretary, CK Valson.

Kalinga stadium-in-charge Bimal Mohanty said the delegation had inspected the venue and also took stock of the new synthetic and warm up tracks which will be completed shortly.

Nearly 800 athletes from 45 countries are expected to take part in the event. The winners will directly qualify for the World Championship in London, to be held from August 4 to 13.
