Berhampur: With the state still not able to get over the shock on the Kunduli gang rape in Koraput a week ago, another similar incident has shaken the conscience of the state. A young woman of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district was allegedly gang raped by six youths at Gangapur area on Monday. Six suspects have however been detained by police.

According to sources, the criminals intercepted the woman who was with her fiancé near Budhakendu temple in Gangapur, dragged to a nearby cashew forest and raped.

The barbaric incident took place when the survivor was on her way back after offering prayers at Budhakendu temple with her fiancé.

However, after a case was registered, police have detained the six accused suspected to be involved in the crime.

"All the accused have been detained and being interrogated. Further investigation is on,” said a police official.

On October 10, four persons suspected to be security personnel allegedly abducted a minor girl to a forest near Sorispadar village under Pottangi police limits and gang raped her. The girl is undergoing treatment at the Kunduli health centre and is reportedly out of danger.
