Bhubaneswar: Leaders of various political parties including the CM and Union Ministers have faced egg attacks 16 times in State in last three years, CM Naveen Patnaik informed the Assembly on Monday.

Responding to a written question of BJP's Dilip Ray, Patnaik said BJP ministers and leaders were targeted in three incidents while BJD leaders including him came under such attack in rest 13 incidents.

As many as 89 workers of various parties and outfits have been arrested so far in 15 incidents while in one incident, no arrest has been made yet, Patnaik added.

The CM's statement about no arrests in one case reportedly pointed to the egg hurling incident on MP Baijayant Panda that took place in Mahanga of Cuttack on May 30.

Responding to a newspaper report on CM’s statement in Assembly, MP Baijayant Panda tweeted, “Hmm... because it also involved stones & brickbats?”

Patnaik had further informed that no such incident has taken place in 2014 while in 2015, two cases have been reported from separate places. Similarly, 2016 has registered maximum 13 egg throwing incidents, the CM told the House. Two incidents have been reported so far in 2017, he stated.
