85-year-old woman with hands, legs tied for 5 years rescued

Dhenkanal: Rather being offered love, care and affection from her family members, a 85-year-old woman has be lying akin to a dead with her hands and legs tied over the past 5 years.

The story is of Sunadei Mohanty from Kaninthapolia area in Dhenkanal district.

According to a neighbour, Sunadei’s family members never take her inside the house, offer her food and she has been subjected to torture by her daughter-in-law.

“She defecated in the open couple of days back and soiled the walls and the doors of the house. Hence we tied her up,” said Sunadi Mohanty’s grand daughter-in-law.

After OTV team discovered the case, it soon sent the photographs of Sunadei to the district collector. Later, upon the direction of the collector Sunadei was rescued in presence of the town police, magistrate and additional tehsildar.
According to sources, Sunadei was taken to a hospital and after health check-up, the district administration is planning to shift her to a old age ashram.
