Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide emergency health service to accident victims, the State government has decided to open eight more trauma care centres at prominent hospitals in the State.

Informing this to media, Chief secretary AP Padhi, who chaired a high level meeting which discussed steps to check the rising road mishaps in the state, said measures will be taken to identify the accident prone or black spots on the roads.

The black spots have been identified in 26 districts while such places will be identified in the rest four districts by end of July, he said. All RTOs and police officials have been directed to intensify inspection of vehicles on highways, he added.

Sources said the Transport department has scrapped 18,000 driving licenses for rash driving, drunken driving and driving without helmet in the last five months.
