7th Pay Commission: NAC soon to decide on basic pay for Central govt employees

The Central government employees are likely to get hike in basic pay as the National Anomaly Committee (NAC) is likely to meet soon to take a final decision on increasing the basic pay to Rs 21,000 from the recommended Rs 18,000 under the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

The committee, which was formed in September 2016, is bestowed with the responsibility of increasing the minimum pay taking into consideration the demands of the central government employees.

The committee is presently looking into the pay anomalies arising out of the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission. It will meet soon and following a majority vote, the basic pay of the employees would be hiked. Besides, the government had earlier clarified that the basic minimum pay of Rs 18,000 is not fixed; it is variable, said sources.

The Narendra Modi-led BJP government recently announced a 14.27 per cent hike in basic pay for the central government employees under the 7th CPC. However, they feel the government just cheated them and failed to meet their expectations. Later, to resolve the issue and avoid mental agony of the employees, the government sent the matter to the Anomaly Committee to take a call.

“Finance Minister Arun Jaitley must know how the central government employees and pensioners are taking the implementation of 7th CPC. Not a single employee or pensioner welcomed it. Even CSIR pensioners have not still been extended the benefit of 7th PC and we are hopeful that even during this festival season we are not going to get this benefit,” said a retired government employee, Arun Kumar.

“The 7th Pay Commission has been disastrous for the Central government employees. A healthy increase in salaries would have checked Corruption to a great extent, but the government has failed in doing so. It should revisit the recommendations and make the necessary changes,” said a Central Income Tax employee.

Other Details:

• The government has reportedly decided to abolish the monthly sumptuary allowance of the judges of the High Courts and the Supreme Court. Judges get the sumptuary allowance in addition to their salary and it is out of the purview of income tax.
• The long-awaited cadre review policy for Junior Commissioned Officers and other rank-holders in the Army was also approved by the government- a step which will offer higher career progression to nearly 1.45 lakh personnel of the force.
