Bhubaneswar: A day after the BJP criticised the Odisha government for not implementing recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission for government employees, several media reports on the BJD government mulling to implement it by Dussehra, started doing rounds. However, all these reports have not been substantiated yet.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had, last week, questioned the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government on the delay in implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations within a month. But  Finance Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera had clearly said the government is considering the reports and will implement the recommendations soon in the interest of State government employees.

“We have received the report from the fitment committee and the government is considering to implement the new pay scale for the employees soon,” said Behera.

It is worth mentioning that the State Fitment Committee’s report is presently with the government for scrutiny and the government is mulling to implement it soon bringing cheers to lakhs of its employees. However, its implementation by Dussehra or sometime soon does not seem possible.

Meanwhile, implementation of the pay panel recommendations will put an additional burden of about Rs 5,500 crore on the state exchequer while about 4.5 lakh State government employees and pensioners will benefit from it.

The State government employees will get around 23 per cent hike in salary with the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission if the government follows Central government pattern. Besides, they will get arrears from 2016 under the 7th Pay Commission regulations.

It may be mentioned that a 6-member fitment committee was constituted on October 31 under chairmanship of Development Commissioner, R Balakrishnan to finalise the modalities of the 7th pay commission recommendations.
