Bhubaneswar: The 71st Independence Day was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm in many educational institutions across Odisha today.

Students of various Bhubaneswar-based schools also took part in march pasts and cultural activities organised by their respective institutions.

Patriotic fervour was high among students and staff of Saint Arnold’s School in Kalinga Vihar area of the city. The Independence Day programme in the school started with the flag hoisting by Additional Chief Secretary of Higher Education department GV Venugopal Sharma.

It was followed by a march past and several cultural activities by students. Parents who were invited as audience to the event were spellbound by the performance.

By presenting a short story about two girls, who were bosom friends, Sharma encouraged the students to be confident and creative. He said that today’s generation needs to be bold, smart, innovative, enthusiastic and optimistic.
