Balasore/Dhenakal: As many as seven persons were killed and two critically injured in three separate accidents in Balasore and Dhenkanal districts today.

Three persons were killed and a pregnant lady was critically injured when a ‘102’ ambulance, Janani Express, they were travelling in was hit by a truck from behind on NH-16 at Barungadia square in Jaleswar of Balasore district. The pregnant lady has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The deceased include the husband of the lady and an ASHA worker. All of them were coming to Balasore town from Ranibasana village under Bhograi block of the district.

Similarly, one person died in another accident in Soro block of the district today.

In Dhenkanal, three persons were killed and one injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a tipper near Nagena village under Gondia police limits. The deceased are yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot and started inquiry after shifting the bodies for post-mortem.

“A 10-wheeler truck and a tipper have collided head-on. The tipper overturned after the collision in which the driver sustained critical injuries. The dead truck driver was trapped inside the vehicle while others were lying dead under the tipper”, Gondia IIC Hadibandhu Swain said.
