Khurda/Sambalpur: As many as eight persons were killed in separate road accidents in the State on Thursday morning.

Three persons died on the spot after a Haiwa truck collided head-on with a tractor on NH-16 near Gadakhurda in Khurda district in the wee hours.

Industrial Police extricated the bodies from mangled remains of tractor with the help of JCB machine.
Identity of the deceased has not yet been established. Meanwhile, Police detained the Haiwa driver.

In another mishap, four persons were killed and two critically injured when a car they were travelling in hit a roadside tree near Dhama square.

Three including a woman and child died on the spot while another critically injured succumbed at a hospital. The mishap took place when the ill-fated vehicle was going from Kashipur towards Gadaposa in Sambalpur.

In Dharmagada of Kalahandi district, a biker was killed following a head-on collision of the two wheeler with another bike.

The deceased was identified as Dakeswara Gainta of Kokasara.
