Bargarh: Seven persons were reportedly injured after an under construction bridge collapsed at Jeera River near Jamdol under Bheden block of Bargarh district today.

According to sources, the bridge that was being constructed under Biju Setu Yojana collapsed during installation of a slab. It was being constructed by the Rural Development Department with an estimated budget of Rs 8.5 crore.

Meanwhile, Bargarh Collector Khagendra Kumar Padhi has ordered a probe into the incident after meeting the injured admitted to Bargarh district headquarters hospital.

Rural Development Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh informed OTV that the department has suspended the Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer who were in charge of the bridge construction.

It is worth mentioning that on September 10 an under-construction flyover bridge had collapsed near Bomikhal in Bhubaneswar killing a person and injuring 12 others. Four persons including two engineers of the Works department had been arrested in this connection.
