Bhubaneswar: The State government has collected excise revenue of Rs 670 crore in the current financial year 2017-18 as against Rs 659 crore in the last fiscal year. Excise Department Secretary Vir Vikram Yadav informed this at a review meeting on excise revenue held here today under the chairmanship of chief secretary AP Padhi.

The meeting also discussed on necessary steps to be taken to stop illegal selling of liquor in the state.

The Excise secretary said 1240 liquor shops were closed in the State after the Supreme Court's order on banning liquor vendors in the vicinity of 500 metres from national and state highways. However, 810 shops out of them were later re-opened.
