Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday announced an increase in the dearness allowance (DA) by 6 per cent for its employees effective from January 1, 2016.

With the latest hike, the DA for government staff has now reached 125%.

“The DA hike has been approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The state government employees are presently getting 119% DA and will be getting 125% DA following the increase by 6 %. This will be effective retrospective from January 2016,” Finance Minister Pradeep Amat told media persons here today.

The hike in DA will come into force with retrospective effect from January 1 this year while the employees will get the hike in the DA with their salary from April.

The decision will benefit four lakh government employees, university staff, teachers of aided schools, teaching and non-teaching college staff, work charged and job contract employees, the release said.

Around three lakh pensioners will also benefit after this hike, the release added.
