Keonjhar: In a bizarre incident, a five-month-old boy suffered critical injuries in an attack by two puppies while sleeping on his house verandah at Niebuga village under Bamabari police limits of Keonjhar district.

Initially, the baby boy was taken to the Jhumpura Primary Health Centre with the help of an ASHA worker and later shifted to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital.

Raimani Munda, mother of the injured baby, said, “My son got hurt in the puppies attack on December 13 while he was sleeping on the verandah. Though I had asked some children to guard my baby and went to the river, the puppies attacked him.”

Ajaya Mohanty, Paediatrics Specialist at the Keonjhar headquarters hospital, who is undertaking treatment of the five-month-old child, said, “Two puppies have severed the urinary tract and parts below it. The baby came for treatment in a serious condition with a Class III dog bite and now he is better state as compared to yesterday.”

Mohanty added the baby was administered the anti rabies vaccine. “But we have planned to take the baby to the Sishu Bhavan in Cuttack as the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital does not have stock of immunoglobulin.”
