5 hurt in group clash in Puri

Puri:  At least 5 persons were injured in a group clash in Brahmagiri area of Puri district today morning.

Tension ran high at Jamuna village under Krushnaprasad police limits after villagers of Sana sahi and Bada sahi clashed over suspected political rivalry.

The incident which started from a mere verbal duel turned violent with either groups engaged in brick batting.

According to reports, trouble erupted after some members of one groups made some political remarks which later spiralled into a controversy and led to the clash.

Sources said, an ambulance which was taking the injured persons to the hospital was also detained for long in the area by the villagers.

The situation was brought under control only after police reached the spot and held discussion with representatives of both groups.

Meanwhile, all the five injured have been shifted to Berhampur MKCG hospital after preliminary treatment at a local community health centre.

Keeping in view palpable tension in the area, police force has been deployed to maintain law and order.
