Jajpur: Five child labourers were rescued by a team of District Child Protection Unit and police following a joint raid on Thursday in Jajpur district’s Nagada village which was in news for malnourishment deaths.

The district administration handed over the rescued children to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after conducting their medical examination, said sources.

According to reports, two of the child labourers were engaged in construction work by contractors whereas three others were employed by the Forest department to douse wildfires.

"Vocational training will be provided to the rescued children and they will be rehabilitated as per government schemes," said Rita Behera, Jajpur CWC chairperson.

Meanwhile, Rural Labour Inspector Gopal Krushna Mangaraj stated show-cause notices will be sent to contractors and the Forest department for employing the child labourers and action will be taken against them thereafter.
