Cuttack: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated a state-of-the-art 4D-Sfx theatre at State Maritime Museum Complex at Jobra here on Friday.
Official sources said, the pragmatically controlled 48 seat capacity 4D theatre hall is first of its kind facility in the state. The new addition would be one of the attractions for the visitors coming to the State Maritime Museums.
The proposals for the 4D theatre complex were mooted by the museum officials in 2014.
The Jobra Maritime Museum, which was a navigational workshop set up by the Britishers, was converted into a museum after the foundation stone was laid in 2007.
Odisha State Maritime Museum is now one of the major tourist attractions after it was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crores in 2013.
The museum boasts of 10 galleries showcasing the rich maritime history of Odisha along with a special aquarium that boasts over 60 aquatic species. The aquarium project was inaugurated on August 21, 2014.
According to museum officials, visitors can get first hand information about various tools, machines, boats that were earlier used at the work shop gallery, maritime history gallery and boat building gallery.
Besides, there is a dedicated gallery on the ancient maritime rituals that were performed by sadhabas (sailors) before they used to take a voyage to Bali, Java Sumatra from the state.
Bulk of the navigational tools exhibited at the museum has been collected from various parts of the country and world by Indian National Trust for Art and Culture (Intach) entrusted by the State Government for conversion of the Navigational workshop into maritime museum.
