Jajpur: Four passengers of Ernakulam-Howrah Antodaya Express were injured when the train hit a defunct JCB machine at a level crossing near Haridaspur station in Jajpur today.

As per reports, the JCB machine had developed some technical snag following which its driver left it behind on the railway tracks. In the mean time the Ernakulam-Howrah crossed the spot and collided with the JCB machine shattering it into two pieces.

The intensity of the collision was so high that passengers of the train were thrown out of their seats. At least four persons suffered serious injuries following which they were admitted to a local hospital. The overhead wire and masts were damaged in the accident. The train was allowed to leave for the destination after three and half hours.

Gateman Jashobanta Swain was suspended by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Khurda for dereliction of duty. Besides, an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Action will be initiated against those found guilty, the DRM added.
