1 killed, 56 injured as bus hits tree in Berhampur

Berhampur: In a tragic incident, one person was killed and 56 others injured as a bus in which they were travelling lost control and hit a road-side tree at Baunsanala in Mujagarh area here on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Kameswari Pradhan of Phulbani.

According to sources, the incident took place at around 6.30 am today while the bus was on its way to Bhanjanagr from Baibeli.

The axle of the bus got damaged following which it lost control and hit a tree causing death of a person on the spot, sources added.

The injured persons were rushed to hospital with the help of locals. Out of the 56 injured persons, condition of eight is stated to be critical, hospital sources said.

The exact reason behind the accident can be ascertained after completion of investigation, said Transport minister Ramesh Majhi.
