Cuttack: Four children including a girl staying in an abandoned building of a residential school here at Bidanasi area were rescued by Childline officials.
The building of Godabarish saint sanskrit residential school where these children were kept is reportedly in a dilapidated condition. They were reportedly staying in a precarious situation. OTV team visited the spot to take stock of the situation after locals raised an alarm.
Later, Childline officials, district education officials and chairman of District Child Welfare Committee rushed to the spot and rescued them.
"We found that the children were staying in a very unhygienic and unsafe building which was completely abandoned. It has no electricity facility. The roof of the building can collapse in any moment," Narayan Sukla, Childline official said.
"There is no electricity in the building. The doors and windows were broken. I suspect that the children were not provided proper food and drinking water. I wonder that how the administration is sitting silent," said Santosh Lenka, a local resident.
District Education Officer (DEO) Niranjan Behera said he will soon report to the Collector regarding the matter.
The identity of the children has not yet been established. The headmaster of the school was not present to comment on the matter.
