Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at the BJB Autonomous College here after four students were seriously injured in a brutal assault by a group of non-students in the afternoon today.

Lagnajit Patra, president of the BJB College Students’ Union, informed that one Aditya Jha, who was contesting for the post of president of the students’ union, came with a group of non-students and attacked some of his friends of the Plus Three final year Commerce. Four of his friends, who were seriously injured in the attack, were admitted to Capital Hospital.

“I have informed the police about the incident and they have assured me of arresting the culprits within 24 hours failing which, we will launch a massive protest tomorrow,” Patra said.

Asked about the incident, principal of the college Mohd Nawaj Hasan, said he has filed a complaint with the police and requested them to take strong action against the culprits. “This is a premiere institute of the state where indiscipline will never be tolerated,” he said.

Talking to media persons, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said a complaint has been lodged by the college authorities against three students in Badagada Police Station and efforts are on to arrest them.

Two platoons of police have been deployed inside the college to ward off any untoward incident, he added.
