336 ASIs demoted to Constables over faulty promotion

Bhubaneswar: A total of 336 Constables who were promoted to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police have been demoted to their earlier rank today, a notification issued by the State Police Headquarters said.

"The officiating ASIs, who were allowed a promotion, have been reverted to the rank of constable with immediate effect. After such revision, the police personnel are posted to the districts from where they were allowed a promotion," the notification added.

The move came after the Orissa High Court on March 15 directed police headquarters to conduct a probe into the alleged irregularities in the promotion process as cited by some petitioners.

The court passed the judgement while hearing on petitions filed by Upendra Gochhayat, Jibana Nanda Behera, Sudam Suna, Jugal Kishore Sethi and others in 2016.
