Bolangir: The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) today transferred three nurses over allegations of administering saline that had crossed its expiry date to some patients in the pediatric ward on Wednesday.

CDMO Sugyanendra Mishra transferred the nurses for dereliction of duty while administering the IV fluid to the patients without checking their expiry date. He also suspended the hospital store keeper Gandharvaraj Deep after stocks of expired injections were found stashed.

The incident came to limelight after one Achyutananda Swain of Gandhinagarpada area found that his daughter was administered an IV fluid that had crossed its expiry date. On checking other saline bottles administered to some other patients, he found three other bottles of the IV fluid had also crossed its expiry date in November last year.

The incident triggered resentment among the attendants, thereby forcing the hospital officials to immediately lock down the medicine store room to restrict access to anyone. Later, based on the complaints of the attendants of the patients, the CDMO directed for a probe into the incident.
